The Four Pillars of Moroccan Beauty

At Alixir, we call them the Four Pillars of Moroccan beauty: Argan Oil, Prickly Pear Oil, Lava Clay and Roses. All our skincare products are based on these 4 miracles of the Moroccan Nature.

Did you know Argan Oil can (nearly) only be found in Morocco ? And did you know that Prickly Pear Seed Oil is the most sought face oil ever ? Have you ever heard of the Moroccan Clay? Have you ever been to Morocco's festival of Roses ?

It is not that easy to tell in few words everything about these four. Therefore, we will content - as a preview - of only the main benefits of each.

Argan Oil benefits

Used for centuries by Amazigh women for its cosmetic properties, argan oil is rich in omega-6 essential fatty acids and tocopherols (Vitamin E) as well as antioxidants that prevent dryness of the skin. It can be used as well in light massages on the face as in local application on particularly dry areas of the body.

Applying cosmetic argan oil to the skin improves skin elasticity in women. The cutaneous application of argan oil revitalizes the skin, stimulates the vital functions of certain epidermal cells, restores the skin barrier and neutralizes the free radicals responsible for skin aging. In dermatological application, argan oil therefore has a nourishing effect and stimulates irrigation. It helps prevent the appearance of wrinkles, cellulite, stretch marks and crow's feet.

Prickly Pear Oil Benefits

Prickly pear oil is mainly demanded and appreciated for its dermo-cosmetic properties. Prickly pear oil contains 100 mg of vitamin E per 100 g (compared to 60 mg for argan oil) and 1000 mg of sterols (compared to 130 mg for argan). Vitamin E and sterols are natural antioxidants which neutralize the action of free radicals resulting in the aging of the skin. All of its virtues slow the appearance of wrinkles and the signs of aging on the skin.

Prickly pear seed oil contains palmitic acid which helps moisturize and protect the skin to make it softer. By providing it with all the elements it needs, the skin is softened for a long time. Full of linoleic acid also called Omega 6, this prodigious oil strengthens and solidifies the skin barrier and helps fight various skin infections such as eczema or psoriasis. Ideal for dull and lifeless complexions, its unsaturated fatty acids restructure and nourish to give tone and radiance.

Rose Water Benefits

Rose water is rich in active ingredients that provide many benefits for a healthy epidermis. Rose Water:

  • Soothes redness
  • Softens dry and rough skin
  • Purifies the epidermis to eliminate impurities and excess sebum
  • Tightens skin pores for a beautiful complexion
  • Tones skin tissue to restore radiance
  • Slows down the aging of the skin by limiting the appearance of wrinkles

Just like on the skin, organic rose water transmits its virtues to your hair, but also to your scalp. Rose water is a:

  • Soothing on scalp irritations
  • Purifying to limit excess sebum
  • Hair softener

Lava Clay Benefits

There are different types of moroccan clays, differentiated by their color which varies according to the iron oxides present in the clay.

Benefits of red clay

Red clay restores radiance to all skin types, but it remains particularly recommended for normal, sensitive skin prone to redness or rosacea. On the hair, red clay absorbs excess sebum, eliminates impurities and purifies the scalp. Because of its color, it is intended for brown and red hair, which it will make more supple and shinier, while providing volume.

Benefits of green clay

Green clay is absorbent. It is particularly recommended for oily skin and also acne-prone skin. Used as a mask, it purifies the skin, regenerates tissues and tightens the pores. It also helps fight against premature aging and reduce wrinkles. For hair, green clay regulates excess sebum and eliminates impurities and toxins. Healing and softening, it soothes irritations of the scalp, including eczema.

Benefits of white clay

White clay purifies the skin of the face without attacking it. Even sensitive skin can thus accommodate a white clay mask. On the body, white clay purifies your skin by removing impurities, hydrating and softening it. White clay also purifies the hair and restores its vigor by absorbing impurities and excess sebum.
